GURDASPUR: Former Punjab chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Thursday said on the completion of one year of his rule at the Centre, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had nothing to his credit to show his countrymen as his achievement.

Former Punjab chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal (third from left) addressing a press conference in Gurdaspur on Thursday.

Addressing a press conference at the residence of former Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Kisan Cell chairman Parminder Gill here on Thursday, Bhattal said Modi came to power with a false promise of giving the people good days.

“Though good days didn’t come for the people, Modi got `15-lakh suit to wear and travelled almost half the world in the past one year,” said Bhattal.

Modi squandered Indian exchequer in the six countries he had recently visited, said the Congress stalwart, adding that the PM was criticised for this even by the RSS.

Stating that Modi had no policy or programme for the people of India, she said the common man was poverty stricken and unemployed and Modi didn’t have time or ability to address their problems.

She compared the one-year regime of the Modi government to a film that flops during its trailer only.

Lashing out at the SAD-BJP government in Punjab, Bhattal alleged that “it was a government by a group of robbers,” who had divided Punjab into their personal pockets.

She said Akalis controlled sand, brick and liquor in the state.

She alleged that all sections of society were dissatisfied with the poor performance of the Parkash Singh Badal government.

Around 200 industrial units had been closed down in the state due to wrong policies of the Badal government, she claimed, while condemning the Badal government for raising service tax and cess on petrol and diesel.

Bhattal said the Badal government was so much in financial crisis that it took over drafting for 138 days inviting adverse remarks from the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

She said the Congress government had left the state economy under a debt of `15,000 crore only, but the Badal government had raised it manifold.

Stating that there was no law and order in Punjab, she cited the incident of recent attack on Congress leader Raman Bahl in Gurdaspur on Tuesday, besides recalling Moga bus incident.

She said under the Badal government, drug menace had engulfed Punjab.
