Cong MLA writes to CM on ‘scams’ in MC works at Ferozepur

FEROZEPUR: The issue of the use of the alleged substandard material in various development works being executed by the municipal committee here has reached the chief minister’s office (CMO) as local Congress MLA Parminder Singh has written a letter to the CMO demanding a judicial probe.

Two days ago, Sukhpal Singh Nannu, former BJP legislator an chief parliamentary secretary had raised the issue publicly besides leading a protest march in the town demand a probe into the works being undertaken by the MC.

In a letter to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, Pinki, while alleging the use of substandard material in the works, demanded a probe into the allotment of contracts by the committee in the recent times. He alleged that most contracts had been allegedly allotted to some Bharatiya Janata Party leaders close to the state party chief Kamal Sharma.

He pointed out that a `14-lakh contract given by the municipal committee for the repair and installation of new streetlights proved of no help and the money was just siphoned off.

He also alleged bungling worth crores in the project concerning streetlights installed on the road starting from Chowk Baba Sher Shah Wali and Shaheed Udham Singh Road and other connected areas. "Badal has been talking of transparency in the administration and asking the people to bring specific instances of corruption to his notice. Now, the onus lies on Badal to ensure an independent probe into all such charges," said Pinki.

He said the government must hand over the investigation to a judicial officer to unearth the scams and take action against the guilty and safeguard the public interest.

Meanwhile, BJP leader and chief of local MC Ashwani Grover rebuffed the charges of use of inferior quality material in works being executed by the MC. "We are ready to face any probe," said Grover.
