CHANDIGARH: Election commissioner of the Indian Youth Congress Raj Kumar Kataria on Monday announced the names of 13 prospective candidates eligible to contest the Youth Congress elections in Punjab, scheduled by June-end.

Kataria said the Youth Congress membership had crossed 3.12 lakh in Punjab and after rejections, 2.8 lakh members were left in the final list. The last date for scrutiny is June 12 and the state Youth Congress body will also be dissolved that day, he said.

He said those who made it to the first list include Deepinder Singh Randhawa (Gurdaspur), Poonam Kangra (Sangrur), Harsimran Bajwa (Pathankot), Amarprit Singh Lali (Hoshiarpur), Gurkimat Sidhu (Barnala), Binny Nabha (Nabha), Gurpinder Singh Mahal (Ajnala), Jagdeep Singh Goldy (Jalalabad), Kushbaaz Jatana (Talwandi Sabo), Baljeet Singh Para (Ferozepur), Ashu (Bhadaur), Ansari (Sanaur) and Kulbir Singh Zira (Zira).

While Deepinder, nephew of Congress MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, and Kulbir Singh Zira, son of ex-minister Inderjit Singh Zira, have made it to the list, the candidature of Rahul Bhattal, son of senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, Kamaljit Singh Brar, son of former Congress legislator Darshan Singh Brar, and Vikas Soni, nephew of Congress legislator OP Soni, has not been considered.
