Ludhiana : After locking the office of Deputy Commissioner against the fuel and power hike, the district Congress led by Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu to lock the office of Municipal Corporation, this coming Friday. However, the Congress leaders kept the date and time of protest secret but the senior Congress leaders confirmed that they will lock Zone A office of MC on June 12, which falls on this coming Friday.
On Monday, Congress Member of Parliament from Ludhiana Ravneet Singh Bittu reminded Municipal Corporation Ludhiana for the ultimatum given by the Congress to speed up the development work otherwise Congress will lock the MC premises.
Bittu said that the tussle between the Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP councillors is hurting the development of the city, which will not be tolerated.
Bittu said, “We stand by our ultimatum of 15 days to the Corporation to sort out and speed up the developmental issues otherwise the party councillors including councillor candidates along with our MLAs, block presidents, ward presidents and Congressmen will force them to work for the people. The councillors are answerable to the people. It’s sad that the Municipal Corporation is least bothered to implement the decisions taken and passed by them in the House,” he said.
Bittu said the decision regarding the property transfer issue is long-pending. Likewise, the NOC for the regularisation of plots and colonies is another issue which needs to be sorted out urgently as the work on registration of properties, have stopped completely and the electricity department is harassing the affected families by not providing them connections.
He said barring few roads all are in a pathetic condition and are crying for patch work. There is no provision for street lighting in all parts of the city, contamination of drinking water is rampant with no arrangement of chlorinisation in tubewells, and sewers remain blocked. The sterilisation and immunisation of stray dogs is not being implemented on the required scale but is being carried out in selected wards.
It may be recalled that in a meeting held on May 30, the Congress Councilors had apprised Ravneet Singh Bittu about the problems being faced by the people and asked him to lead the agitation to achieve the desired results.
