ADAMPUR (JALANDHAR): Stating that the Congress party had no problem in the shifting of Sikh prisoners from one state to another, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday accused the state government of adopting double standards on the issue.
Bajwa, who was in town for his mass-contact programme, said the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had deliberately raked up the issue of prisoners to divert attention of people from its failure on the governance and development front. “We are not against shifting of inmates lodged in cases related to terrorism or their freedom, if the law permits. However, chief minister Parkash Singh Badal owes an answer to the state’s residents on what compelled this move now. In 2008, the SAD-BJP opposed Bhullar’s shifting before the Supreme Court, now how has anything changed? Badal should explain,” said Bajwa.
