CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta on Monday accused the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SAD-BJP) combine of polarising Sikh and Hindu votes by bringing Delhi blast convict Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar to Amritsar jail.

She said the state unit of the BJP should protest against the Akalis and take up the Bhullar issue with Union home minister Rajnath Singh who will be visiting Anandpur Sahib on June 19 for the foundation day celebrations of the holy city.

Coming down heavily on the BJP leaders, the Congress spokesperson said the saffron leaders were shedding crocodile tears on bringing Bhullar back to Amritsar jail. “The decision was taken with the mutual consent of the SAD-BJP leadership,” she alleged.

Accusing the BJP of telling a lie, she said if state party chief Kamal Sharma was concerned about the consequences of bringing Bhullar back to Amritsar, why didn’t he approach chief minister Parkash Singh Badal earlier? After all, the process to bring the Delhi blast convict started a long ago, she added.
