THE PROTESTERS DEMANDED THE RELEASE OF SIKH PRISONERS LODGED IN VARIOUS JAILS OF THE COUNTRY, CITING THAT THEY HAD COMPLETED THEIR SENTENCES
ANANDPUR SAHIB: Union home minister Rajnath Singh was on Friday targeted with slogans such as ‘Go back Rajnath’ and ‘Stop discrimination against Sikhs’ at the Anandpur Sahib event.
A group of Sikh protesters raised slogans against the minister as soon as he stood up to deliver his address.
The function was disrupted for a while as police rounded up about 35 persons, while many others left the venue, continuing to raise slogans. Rajnath, however, did not react to the sloganeering.
The protesters demanded the release of Sikh prisoners lodged in various jails of the country, citing that the latter had completed their sentences.
Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema, who was managing the stage, tried to drown out the slogans by asking the gathering to raise the war cry of “Jo bole so nihal, sat sri akal”.
