CHANDIGARH: The Congress will bring a privilege motion against deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal in the next assembly session for misleading state on power, said leader of opposition Sunil Jakhar.

Expressing concerns over power cuts being imposed in all parts of the state, Jakhar said long power cuts have increased the problems of the people, but the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (SADBJP) government was least concerned about the issue.

In July 2014, Sukhbir had claimed to make Punjab a power surplus state within a fortnight, but even after almost a year, people are facing long power cuts, alleged Jakhar. “The government should issue a white paper on the power situation in the state,” added Jakhar.

Addressing the national executive of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) in May, Sukhbir tempted them to invest in Punjab terming it a power surplus state, while during his visit to Pakistan, he promised to supply the neighbouring country surplus power from Punjab, said Jakhar.

“But long power cuts in the state are contradictory to Sukhbir’s claims. The government has turned a blind eye to the common man’s problems,” he said. The BJP, which claims to safeguard the interests of urban masses, is busy enjoying the perks of power, he said.
