SANGRUR: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP from Sangrur Bhagwant Mann, along with hundreds of party workers, staged a protest on Monday against the deplorable conditions of the main bus stand in the city and the cutting of trees at the local sanctuary.
Aam Aadmi Party Sangrur MP Bhagwant Maan protesting against the state government in Sangrur on Monday.
Addressing the gathering, Mann said the state government had made false promises of allocating funds for the construction of the new bus stand.
“Commuters face a lot of inconvenience due to the problem of severe water logging, poor condition of toilets, bathrooms and other civic amenities at the bus stand,” the MP claimed.
The MP also alleged that the forest department had started cutting trees in the Sohian sanctuary due to which wild animals can be spotted in the residential areas, posing threat to lives.
“The district administration must intervene and should look into the matter. We need an answer who permitted the axing of trees and for what reason,” he said.
Meanwhile, terming the AAP protest as political gimmick, local MLA Prakash Chand Garg said that holding a protest for the bus stand issue is illogical since all the formalities to initiate the construction of new bus stand had been completed.
“The work of laying new sewerage system and drainage system has started. A memorandum of understanding has also been signed with a private company for the construction of a bus stand,” the MLA added.
