Bittu seeks CNG supply in Punjab

LUDHIANA: Raising the issue of environmental pollution mainly caused due to vehicles, Ludhiana member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu has shot off a letter to Dharmendra Pradhan, minister of state for petroleum and natural gas, apprising him of the present situation of Punjab facing environmental crises.
Bittu demanded provision of clean fuel and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at all filling stations in Punjab to get rid from vehicular pollution to a large extent.
Bringing minister’s attention towards the issues of Punjab, mainly industrial town of Ludhiana, Singh said, “The environmental pollution caused due to vehicles has affected weather conditions and also led to health problems among residents. The environmentalists also caution of bad weather conditions in the coming years due to manifold increase in the pollution level.”
Giving example of Delhi, Bittu said, “With availability of CNG as vehicular fuel the capital has got rid of air pollution. To prevent further degradation of environment in Punjab, it is the need of the hour for government to provide CNG at all filling stations of Punjab to encourage vehicle owners to run their vehicles on CNG.”
He observed that large numbers of autos plying on roads are considered as lifeline of Ludhiana, and with availability of CNG problem of pollution in the Punjab will be solved.
“Moreover, CNG-run vehicles will also save fuel expenses of consumers comparatively to petrol and diesel vehicles,” said Ravneet Singh Bittu.
