CHANDIGARH: Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar on Thursday met Punjab governor Kaptan Singh Solanki to seek action against ‘guilty’ police officers who were responsible for ill-treating Jalandhar-based teacher Rajni who had suffered foetus miscarriage in police custody on March 23 as the state government had failed to provide any help to the teacher, so far.
“A government employee, Rajni was taken into police custody to prevent her from joining a protest against the non-fulfilment of promises made by the Punjab government. While perpetrators of henious crimes and known terrorists are given political patronage and they are roaming free on the streets of Punjab, police indulged in brutal and inhuman conduct causing grievous injury to the teacher, who along with her colleagues was planning to protest peacefully for their salaries and regularisation of jobs, the memorandum,” Jakhar told the governor.
Jakhar, who had raised the matter in Punjab assembly during the budget session in March, said even after lapse of more than three months, no relief had been provided.
