CHANDIGARH: The Punjab and Haryana high court on Wednesday posted for July 14 the hearing on a petition challenging the acquisition of land for the construction of a road leading to a resort owned by the Badal family in SAS Nagar district.

As the hearing began on Wednesday, the Punjab government counsel sought adjournment, stating that he needed some time to argue the case. Following the submissions, the division bench of justice AK Mittal and justice Rekha Mittal adjourned the hearing for July 14.The interim order on stay of construction on petitioner Juveeza Chadha’s land would continue till further orders.

During the previous hearing on May 29, the petitioner had sought to make deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal as party to the case. The petitioner had stated that the decisions on objections under Section 15 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013, had been taken by Sukhbir, who also holds shares in the resort.

The petitioner had also sought to make chief minister Parkash Singh Badal as party to the case; the demand is being vehemently opposed by the state government. The court is yet to take a call on the demand.

The petitioner is a resident of Majra village, through which the controversial 100-ftwide and 1.3-km-long road is being constructed. The resort, Metro Eco Green Resorts at Palanpur village, is located 2 km from where this road ends. Palanpur is about 20 km from Chandigarh.
