Sangrur : Congress leader and Lehragaga MLA Rajinder Kaur Bhattal will attend the mass contact programme of Capt Amarinder Singh whenever it is organised in her Assembly constituency in the larger interest of the party.

She said that such rallies should also be held by other senior Congress leaders to mobilise party workers.

Talking to The Tribune yesterday, Bhattal said Capt Amarinder Singh would organise these rallies to expose the SAD-BJP government’s “wrongdoings” and to mobilise party workers for the Assembly elections in February 2017.

She said that she had held a similar rally in Gurdaspur about a month ago to strengthen the party and boost the morale of party workers. Bhattal said that Capt Amarinder Singh – on a visit to her house some months ago – had suggested: “Aapan kathe ho ke rallian kariye” (Let us organise rallies jointly).

To a question whether she considers holding of a mass contact programme by Capt Amarinder Singh as an “anti-party” activity in any way, she merely said he would hold rallies in favour of the Congress.

Bhattal also called upon other senior Congress leaders to come out of their houses to hold rallies for mobilising party workers, exposing the SAD-BJP government and creating a Congress wave in Punjab to form the next government in the state.

Bhattal also clarified that she would attend rallies irrespective of these being organised by former CM Capt Amarinder Singh or president of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Partap Singh Bajwa.

She said these rallies were not being organised by the leaders to pull each other down as all of them would expose the SAD-BJP government and educate the people about the “anti-people” policies of the Badal government.
