Chandigarh : The buzz about the organisational shake-up in the party’s state unit by the All-India Congress Committee notwithstanding, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar has said that the leadership change is the prerogative of the party high command and there are “no differences” in the party’s state unit.
Asked if the delay on part of the Congress high command on the issue of leadership change and the ongoing tussle between Capt Amarinder Singh and PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa for the top slot of the PPCC affect the party’s poll prospects in Punjab, Jakhar said the leadership issue had been already settled.
“The Congress would go to the polls with a united face. The state party leadership is together and the people might have observed it at the party’s recent functions in Jalandhar (Capt Amarinder Singh’s mass contact programme) and elsewhere. The Congress is united. As far as, the change of leadership is concerned, it is the prerogative of the party high command to effect any such change and to decide its timing,” Jakhar said.
Asked about his choice, Jakhar quipped in a lighter vein, “If there is any such thing, I will convey it to the party high command.” When asked about Partap Singh Bajwa’s Dalit constituency-centric mass contact programme, Jakhar said Bajwa could carry on with his programme. “He is the PPCC president, duly nominated by the party high command. What is the harm if he continues with his programme. The Congress is united. Everyone has to work for the party and for the implementation of its programmes,” he said.
