CHANDIGARH: Saying that Punjab had been “defamed due to drug menace”, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Sunil Jakhar on Saturday slammed the BJP for “not taking effective steps” against the cultivation of opium and poppy husk in states like Madhya Pradesh where the saffron party is in power.
“Punjab has been defamed due to drugs and the BJP leaders who have lost credibility are now organising marches against land and drug mafia in the state just to save their skin before the assembly elections,” Jakhar said in a press statement here. Dubbing as a “political gimmick” the move by deputy CM to petition the MP high court for banning poppy cultivation, Jakhar asked the government to clarify its stand on the use of synthetic drugs in Punjab.
