LUDHIANA: Member of Parliament Ravneet Singh Bittu has sent a letter to union minster for civil aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju Pusapati seeking his intervention in the matter to resume flights from Sahnewal airport, which is not operational for the past one year.
The city with thousands of medium and small scale industries is an industrial hub of north India. But, despite the fact, the industry has grown leaps and bounds in this illustrious city, there are still numerous shortcomings with respect to flight connectivity with other cities.
The letter stated, “It is ironic that a city which as per World Bank (WB) report titled “Doing Business in India 2009” states that Ludhiana is the most adept place to carry out business transactions, does not even have direct flight connectivity with national capital.”
Bittu said, “A single flight on Sunday, Monday and Wednesday was serving city people till last year. Though the required equipment/infrastructure to run more flights has been created at the Sahnewal Airport in the past few years, instead of adding more flights the Air India has discontinued its services, for reasons best known to the airline.”
In view of the above mentioned facts, Ravneet Bittu wanted the kind intervention of union minster so that regular daily flight from New Delhi to Sahnewal airport should be started.
