Chandigarh : After the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) sent its delegation to woo NRIs abroad, the Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) will also soon set out to garner support of large Punjabi Diaspora scattered across the globe for the party.

Party’s state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur told this to reporters but did not divulge details of his travels.

Questioned further, he said, “Once I get my visa, I will launch the campaign,” and added that it was his personal plan.

His decision comes days after senior Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh said he is planning to visit foreign countries in September-October to attract NRIs’ support.

Political parties are trying to woo the Punjabi diaspora as they feel that the community can play a significant role in 2017 assembly polls in Punjab.

Delegations of SAD led by ministers are touring various countries where sizable number of Punjabis are settled.

Chhotepur also claimed that leaders from various political parties are keen to join AAP.

“Leaders from various parties have expressed willingness to join AAP. Some big names would be in the party fold in the next six months,” he said. He rejected reports suggesting internal conflict in AAP and of the party forming an alliance with Manpreet Badal-led People’s Party of Punjab.
