Jalandhar : Refuting the allegations levelled by a US-based NGO, Sikh For Justice (SFJ), in a criminal complaint to the US Attorney General recently, Capt Amarinder Singh said the charges were made with the sole purpose of seeking cheap publicity.
“I dismiss this complaint and ridicule it as it has been filed with the sole purpose of seeking cheap publicity. It would have been better if the NGO had mentioned the names of the accused officers whom I had protected and promoted,” said the Amritsar MP in a mail sent to The Tribune on Sunday.
He said the complaint was motivated and had been prompted at the behest of certain vested interests and political parties in Punjab which did not want him to visit the US. “Let me reiterate that I am continuing with my North America tour come what may,” he said.
Amarinder said he understood the frustration of people who were trying to seek publicity from his visit.
Amarinder maintained that Punjab had moved far ahead of the dark days of terrorism and people were living in absolute peace here. “However, some mischievous elements in some foreign countries are trying to vitiate the atmosphere here. We will not let that happen and we will ensure that Punjab always remains peaceful in spite of all those provocations by such mischievous elements,” said Capt Amarinder.
