KAPURTHALA: Sultanpur Lodhi Congress MLA Navtej Singh Cheema has alleged that Kapurthala police have been acting under the influence of ruling Akali government and people have been running for justice from pillar to post.

Sultanpur Lodhi MLA Navtej Cheema addressing a press conference in Kapurthala on Monday.

In a press conference on Monday, Cheema alleged that SAD leader Gurcharan Singh, his brother Jarnail Singh and his wife Sarabjit Kaur have been trying to capture the property of Jasbir Kaur of Kollianwal village after the death of her husband by evicting her from her house.

Cheema claimed that several complaints have been filed before the SSP and the SHO at Fattu Dhingra police station, but to no avail.

He said Kaur’s husband had made a will of his property in her favour and since his death, his brothers -- Gurcharan Singh, Jarnail Singh and his wife Sarabjit Kaur were eyeing that property. Cheema alleged that they had even beaten her and had attempted to outrage her modesty. The MLA also warned that if police failed to take action against them, his party would hold a massive protest against Fattu Dhinga SHO.

When contacted, SHO Narinder Kumar confirmed about receiving the complaints and said he would register the case after investigating it.
