AMRITSAR: In an escalation of the war of words over Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief parliamentary secretary from Amritsar Navjot Kaur Sidhu and the local unit of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), the district chief of the party Upkar Sandhu has asked her to resign as the MLA and contest without his party’s support.

“Today, if Dr Sidhu has so much hate for the Akali Dal, she must step down and contest again without SAD support. She will not even be able to save her election deposit,” claimed Sandhu. Interestingly, Dr Sidhu had recently asked Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to check ‘mischief ’ around him. He had also said that she would not contest the 2017 assembly polls in the state, if the SAD-BJP alliance continued. The CM, however, in all his public utterances has referred to Dr Sidhu as her daughter.

Sandhu demanded the intervention of the BJP high command and stop Dr Sidhu from making remarks against SAD.

“Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has always been sincere as far as development is concerned. Dr Sidhu has been making false allegations against the CM,” Sandhu added.

Notably, Dr Sidhu had barged into the CM’s Sangat Darshan programme in the region a few days back and claimed that `10 crore that the government had promised to her for the development of the Amritsar (East) constituency had never been given. She had even threatened to go on a hunger strike from August 15.
