JALANDHAR: Punjab Congress spokesperson Nimisha Mehta on Saturday demanded judicial probe into the alleged Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party links to the drug business being carried out in the state.
Even as Mehta welcomed Union food processing minister and Bathinda MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal’s statement seeking resignation of Punjab BJP president Kamal Sharma, she questioned the latter’s silence over her brother Bikram Majithia’s alleged connection with the multi-crore drug racket.
In a press release, she lashed out at Harsimrat, saying both the SAD and the BJP were party to the “crime of patronising drugs mafia in Punjab”.
“Harsimrat has proved that blood is thicker than water. While she was nowhere to be found when Majithia’s name figured prominently in the drug case, she was quick to seek state BJP chief’s resignation,” the state Congress spokesperson said.
Mehta maintained that it was a litmus test for the BJP leadership too, which had been claiming zero tolerance in drug cases at the national level.
