Congmen welcome Brar, thank Sonia, Rahul

Chandigarh : Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday thanked the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi for revoking the suspension of senior Congress leader and former member of Congress Working Committee Jagmeet Singh Brar. Welcoming the move, Bajwa said Jagmeet Brar has been soldier of the party and this would further strengthen the party in Punjab in the coming Vidhan Sabha polls. He also expected that S. Brar will work for the betterment of the party in Punjab.

Veteran trade unionist and senior Congressman M M Singh Cheema also welcomed the step of Sonia Gandhi. “Jagmeet Singh Brar is a good orator, who is known as Awaz-e-Punjab,” he said. Cheema, who is permanent invitee to PPCC, had earlier taken up the matter of Jagmeet Brar with Sonia Gandhi of presenting the unified face of party at this critical juncture with renewed vigour, when Punjab was going to be the first comeback state for Congress party in near future after the debacle in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. “All the traditional Congressmen be allocated some responsibility as per their track record and capability with all inclusive approach. Senior congressmen who are sitting at home, had differences with state leadership or for various other reasons has left the party or party has initiated proceedings against them be given a chance to prove their metal,” Cheema had apprised Gandhi. In a letter to Gandhi, Cheema thanked her for the revocation of Jagmeet Brar’s suspension and further suggested that state leadership issue be resolved at the earliest and a firm message should be given to the party leaders in Punjab to bury their personal differences in the larger interest of the party.

Sukhpal Khaira, spokesperson of Punjab Congress also welcomed the re-entry of Jagmeet Singh Brar into the party fold. While thanking Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Khaira said that this wise move of the party high command will not only strengthen the Congress in Punjab but will be a step forward to form the government in the ensuing 2017 Vidhan Sabha elections.

Khaira said that Jagmeet Brar was not only a firebrand leader but carries a clean and spotless image. Besides being educated and a good orator, Brar is blessed with good political ideology by his late former Minister father Gurmeet Singh Brar. He further stated that Jagmeet Brar has always upheld the interest of Punjab, Punjabiat and the Sikh community for which he has had to suffer immensely. Khaira lauded contribution of Brar made as Member of Parliament for which he was given the Best Parliamentarian award during the 10th Lok Sabha. Khaira also appealed to the party high command to give an important party responsibility to Brar, which can catapult the Congress party to power in the 2017 Assembly elections.

Pertinently, former Congress MP and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Jagmeet Singh Brar, who was suspended from the party last year after he suggested that the Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi should hand over party’s reins to someone else, is back in the Congress with Sonia Gandhi on Friday revoking his suspension from the party. The revocation of his suspension came days after he met Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi twice and cleared the “misunderstanding.”
