Ludhiana : The Congress party, led by Congress MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, party legislators Bharat Bhushan Ashu and Surinder Dawar, launched a ‘quit Badal’ drive to mark the anniversary of Quit India movement.

The call to rid the state of Badal family misrule was given by the Congress leaders at a function organised by Ramesh Joshi, chairman of urban development cell of the party at the Circuit House here today.

Bittu and other party functionaries said the freedom attained after long-lasting struggle and unparalleled sacrifices made by martyrs was under threat from the Badal family which had turned Punjabi youth into mental and physical slaves by proliferating drug trafficking.

The Ludhiana (Urban) unit of Congress Sewa Dal took out a peace march from Basti Abdullapur to observe the 73rd anniversary of Quit India movement. The march, led by district chief Nirmal Kaira, passed through Fauji Mohalla, Indira Nagar, Link Road and concluded at the main office of the Sewa Dal.

While addressing party workers, Rajinder Rasrania, president, Punjab Pradesh Congress Sewa Dal said Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi had launched the Quit India movement on this day in 1942 to throw out British rulers. It was with persistent struggle and sacrifices made by freedom fighters and martyrs that the nation became independent on August 15, 1947.

He lashed the SAD-BJP government in the state for pursuing anti-people policies which had made life of people miserable
