HOSHIARPUR: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Sunday demanded immediate resignation of state BJP chief Kamal Sharma in the wake of the registration of a case against two of the latter’s personal staff members for their alleged links with drug traffickers, besides a CBI inquiry. The PPCC chief, along with AICC general secretary Shakeel Ahmad, was here to pay tributes to former parliamentarian Chowdhary Sunder Singh on his 19th death anniversary. A function was organised by Singh’s daughter-in-law and former Union minister Santosh Chowdhary.

“Now, when the BJP’s own Prime Minister is the head of the premier investigating agency, it will have all the more faith in its functioning. When Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia’s name cropped up in the Bhola drug racket, the state BJP chief demanded his resignation and we appreciated this. Now that his own aides are facing same charges, he is morally bound to resign,” Bajwa said.
Bajwa announced to start an agitation in support of sugarcane growers who are facing a grim situation in the wake of closure calls by various co operative and privately run sugar mills. “We will start our protest from Phagwara by gheraoing SAD leader Jarnail Singh Wahid’s sugar mill. Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has a share in this mill,” he said.
