PATIALA: Several women Congress MLAs on Wednesday criticised senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal for her remark that former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh discriminated against women leaders.

They also questioned Bhattal’s moral authority in accusing Amarinder of having got support from Akalis in the Amritsar election when “she herself was known to have won from Lehragaga assembly segment with the Akali help”.

In a joint statement, legislators Karan Kaur Brar, Aruna Chaudhary, Harchand Kaur, Preneet Kaur and Guriqbal Kaur expressed surprise over Bhattal’s remarks, wondering whether she realised what she was talking about.

“It is unbecoming of a senior leader to resort to the gender discrimination charge against Amarinder when she herself had enjoyed all perks of power under his chief ministership,” they observed while advising her to observe restraint while issuing statements.

CONG LEADERS SEEK BHATTAL’S APOLOGY
AMRITSAR: Reacting to former Bhattal’s claims, former president of the Amritsar (urban) unit of the DCC Jugal Kishore Sharma said Bhattal had “deeply hurt the sentiments of Congress leaders and workers of the Amritsar constituency”.
