BATHINDA: Congress deputy leader in the Lok Sabha and former chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday, demanded the cancellation of the FIR registered against party workers under section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC in Rampura Phul assembly segment, terming it false.
He also warned the local SAD leadership and police officers responsible for the FIR saying that they must be prepared to face the consequences. “Enough is enough”, he said.
“This is no fun that you intimidate our people and level severe charges against them in sheer political vendetta,” he said, adding, come what may the SAD men responsible for the FIR and the police officers helping such men will have to pay for their actions.
On the FIR against five party activists, he said, they were simply protesting against the police inaction in an abetment to suicide case. However, the SAD men got the FIR registered against them for attempt to murder.
He said this was not for the first time that Congress workers were being intimidated and alleged that they were selectively booked as they had played a major role in the success of the August 4 Congress rally at Rampura Phul.
The FIR has been registered after a clash of residents of Dialpura Bhai Ka with the police while protesting with the body of a suicide victim, who was booked under the NDPS Act, demanding a case against a man from the same village, who is a supplier of drugs, and accused him of abetting suicide by the youth. The protesters had pelted the police with stones while the police had resorted to a canecharge on protesters and opened fire in the air on Sunday. As many as 20 people were booked by name and about 150 as unidentified for attempt to murder on a complaint by a constable.
The former chief minister claimed that one of the men booked in the case, Jagsir Singh Jagga, sarpanch of Maluka village, was not even present during the protest as he had gone for pilgrimage to Anandpur Sahib. He said this was the fifth such FIR against him at the behest of SAD men.
