CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Thursday ridiculed chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for pleading with Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a special financial package to rescue the state from the deepening crisis.

Bajwa, in a statement here, also asked Badal to disclose to the people of Punjab the plight of 15,000 Sikh farmers in Gujarat whose land was being taken away by the state government. “What has happened to the promise of Modi to take back the special leave petition filed in the Supreme Court against Sikh farmers in Gujarat,” Bajwa asked Badal.

“You now must have realised the difference between Manmohan Singh, who never denied any request for uplift of the state, and Modi who is anti-minorities. Even your request for an appointment (with Modi) is not being honoured, what to talk of any special package for the state on the pattern of Bihar where assembly polls are due,” Bajwa said.

Bajwa even stated that Badal had put his stakes on the wrong man.
