CHANDIGARH: The Congress party’s deputy leader in the Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh, on Sunday warned the Punjab Police against harassing National Students Union of India (NSUI) leaders at the behest of deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal with the intention to help Students Organisation of India (SOI), the student wing of Shiromani Akali Dal.

In a press statement, Amarinder alleged that the Police had been harassing NSUI activists and their parents, residing in and around SAS Nagar.

Capt Amarinder said that he had received a number of complaints that the NSUI volunteers living in and around Mohali were being harassed by the Punjab Police.

He also condemned the “arbitrary” cancellation of the candidature of Hardik Nain, who was the NSUI candidate for the post of president. “Please do not try to spoil and poison the atmosphere of sacred institutions like Panjab University by using dirty tricks against your opponents,”Capt appealed.
