Jalandhar : Even as the Opposition has been stepping up pressure seeking a CBI probe into BJP state chief Kamal Sharma’s alleged links with drug smugglers and his resignation from the post, he today reacted saying that he was ready for a probe by any central or state agency and would not just quit his post but politics, if found guilty.
Sharma, who was in city this evening, said he was in no way connected to Jarnail Singh, the BJP (Rural) Minority Morcha’s Ferozepur district president, who was arrested by the Rajasthan Police on the charges of drug trafficking yesterday. “He was just a small-time worker with us. The party had already expelled him on June 16 for his anti-party activities. I have no links with him,” he claimed.
On his pictures with the arrested BJPleader, the visibly upset party chief said: “It is common for people to sit beside me and get themselves clicked. That happens with all politicians. Since these people also post their pictures on Facebook or other social media sites, it is easily accessible for anyone for use or misuse later.”
Sharma has been facing the wrath of his opponents within the paty and opposition leaders ever since the names of his aides surfaced in the alleged bribery scam. Jarnail Singh is the fifth person from the BJP’s Ferozepur unit to have been booked. The other four were booked on the charges of accepting bribe to help persons involved in drugs and fake arms licence cases evade police action.
Sharma ruled out quitting from the post as of now. “I am in direct liaison with the party leadership. I have recently even Amit Shah and apprised him of the situation. I have been keeping all my seniors in the loop over these developments,” he said.
