Bathinda : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday condemned the delay in the announcement of ‘One Rank one pension’ (OROP) for the ex-servicemen of the country when it had been promised to them and particularly when the previous UPA government had already approved it.
“If you can spare Rs 1 lakh crore for Kashmir and another Rs 1.25 lakh crore for the poll bound Bihar, why can’t you spare a mere Rs 9,100 crore for our ex-servicemen who have given their entire life to the country?” he asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He further said that this was the worst betrayal as they had taken their votes in the name of the OROP and when the time came for keeping the promise, they backed out. Amarinder was at Dharamkot in Moga district to address a public rally organised by the party’s constituency in charge Sukhjit Singh ‘Kaka’ Lohgarh.
He also expressed apprehensions about the ability of the state government to procure the paddy that should be coming to the mandis within a month. He pointed out that while the FCI stopped the purchase as the state government had no money which he expected could result in no procurement of paddy.
He asked the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal as to why he had not approached the Centre till now in order to avoid emergency situation. Addressing the gathering, Capt Amarinder gave a call to the people of Punjab urging them to get Punjab rid of the Badals. He accused the ruling Badals of being involved in bungling the SGPC money. Lashing out at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for letting down the state, Amarinder pointed out that he (Badal) had become the Chief Minister of Punjab for the fifth time but had hardly anything to his credit that he could claim he did for the state and its people. “Please list a single achievement you could tell people of Punjab you did for them’, he challenged Badal.
