Sangrur : Expressing concern over suicide by debt-ridden farmers, PPCC president Partap Bajwa today asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to launch an offensive against the Centre to seek Rs51,000 crore debt waiver for Punjab farmers.
“The entire Congress will stand by the government in this mission to save the suffering farming community. Badal should immediately hold a dharna in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in Delhi,” he said.
Bajwa was addressing Congress’ “Punjab Bachao” rally organised by PPCC vice-president Surinderpal Singh Sibia here.
Other who spoke on the occasion included Punjab Congress affairs in charge Shakeel Ahmed, former CM Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, president of Indian Youth Congress Amrinder Singh Raja warring, Patiala (Rural) MLA Braham Mohindra, Sibia and former PPCC president Shamsher Singh Dullo.
Bajwa said in the forthcoming Assembly elections, he would favour a “greater alliance of secular forces to defeat the fundamental forces”. He said due to the policies of the SAD-BJP government Punjabis would be in minority in Punjab in 30 years while migrants would be in majority, so there was a need to save the state.
Bajwa reiterated the demand for a CBI inquiry into the Rs6,000 crore synthetic drugs case wherein the main accused, Jagdish Bhola, had named two Punjab ministers.
Replying to a query, Shakeel Ahmed said if invited, he would attend Capt Amarinder Singh’s rally at Dirba (Sangrur) on September 4. He said Captain was also working for the party’s cause. He, however, admitted that votes polled in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party would affect the Congress.
Bhattal asked the people to teach lesson to the SAD-BJP alliance in the forthcoming Assembly elections for the miseries suffered by them during their regime. He said the Congress would remain united to uproot the Badal regime.
