LUDHIANA: Senior Congress leader and former Union minister Manish Tewari on Sunday said that Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee would soon change the committee chief, as the top leadership was holding discussions in this regard.
Addressing a gathering during a medical camp, Tewari said, “It was always the prerogative of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. She was already having discussions with senior leaders of the state and a decision is expected soon.”
Tewari also sought a Supreme Court-monitored probe into the reports of drug money being laundered through real estate investments in Punjab. He suggested that an application should also be moved in the Supreme Court, which is already monitoring the investigations into the black money.
He expressed grave concern over the fast-spreading menace of drug consumption and peddling in the state. Tewari said, “The drug trade in Punjab was quite huge and the money was reportedly being invested in the real estate, which needs to be probed.”
The former Union minister observed that till the time, the nexus between the drug suppliers and the real estate developers is not smashed, the drug trade and consumption will continue to flourish in Punjab with due patronage from the government.
He said, “The drug peddling routes of investments, like the real estate, need to be blocked.”
Earlier, he appreciated the efforts of the welfare society of Rishi Nagar for organising the free orthopaedic check-up camp. He said this camp would prove to be a boon for senior citizens, as check up and treatment was made available at their doorsteps. He called for organising more such camps to provide relief to the people.
