FEROZEPUR: Congressmen, led by Parminder Singh, MLA, held a a dharna here on Monday to demand the arrest of all the associates of the state Bharatiya Janata Party chief Kamal Sharma whose names had appeared in cases relating to corruption, drugs, illegal arms and fake currency.

The agitators said that while only Sharma’s personal assistant Jimmy Sandhu had been arrested so far, the police were still to take action against Amrinder Singh Pothi and Jugraj Singh Katora and others.

The Congress leaders alleged there was a nexus between smugglers and politicians and the police were operating like a mafia in the state. They said this nexus had ruined the state.

Parminder Singh regretted the delay in setting up a satellite centre of the Postgraduate Institute of Education and Research that was sanctioned by the UPA government.

They attacked chief minister Parkash Singh Badal for not giving importance to the social sectors including health and education which, otherwise, should get top priority as both these sectors were concerned with human development.
