Moga : Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha Captain Amarinder Singh and his loyalists including the CLP leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar on Wednesday made a series of promises to the people which they will fulfil if they were voted to power in the state in 2017 Assembly poll. Addressing a rally here, not only his supporters, but Amarinder too strongly projected himself as the next Chief Minister of Punjab. Amarinder promised to punish the drug peddlers and the officials indulged in corrupt practices, terming them the worst and the greatest enemies of Punjab.

“Those who are indulged in corruption and have robbed Punjab of its precious resources will also meet the justice they deserve,” announced Captain, adding: “I can forgive anyone, but will never forgive those who pushed Punjab into drug addiction and looted its resources.” Buoyed over the response from masses, he also announced to end the monopoly in the transport sector in Punjab, promising that once he becomes the Chief Minister, he would close down the transport company belonging to the ruling family. “It will create job avenues and business opportunities for thousands of unemployed youth in the state,” he mentioned.

Former Chief Minister warned the Food Corporation of India (FCI) against stopping the purchase of wheat and paddy in Punjab. He also asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to spell out the measures he had planned for the procurement of paddy which would soon be arriving in the mandis. Earlier, the rally organisers Darshan Singh Brar and Kamaljeet Brar, while welcoming Capt Amarinder, said that Punjab desperately needed him as the Chief Minister. Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Kumar Jakhar said that the gathering was only indicative of the writing on the wall that the people of Punjab wanted to see Capt Amarinder as the next Chief Minister of the state.

Jakhar said: “After you become the Chief Minister in 2017 you must punish the corrupt the same way you did in 2002.” It is pertinent to mention that amid speculations of high command all set to replace Partap Singh Bajwa, his bête noir Amarinder is trying hard to convince the AICC leadership to consider Sunil Jakhar for the position of PPCC president. Singing paeans to Amarinder, Jakhar reminded him the way he had nailed Ravi Sidhu, the then chairman of Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC), and set a process in motion to punish the corrupt.

“You need to repeat it after becoming the Chief Minister in 2017,” Jakhar appealed Amarinder. Responding to the massive crowds, the CLP leader further said: “The writing is on the wall and you are certain to become the Chief Minister and people have great expectations from you.” Expressing his high regard for Amarinder, the CLP leader further said: “Earlier, I used to call you the saviour of the Punjab waters and now you have to be the saviour of the entire Punjab.” Prominent among those present on the occasion included Rana Gurjeet Singh, Kewal Dhillon, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa, Sukh Sarkaria, Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Joginder Panjgraian, Karan Kaur Brar, Harchand Kaur, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Navtej Cheema, Mohammad Sadiq, Sadhu Singh Dharamsot, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Kikki Dhillon and PYC president Amarpreet Singh Lally.
