Amritsar : Veteran Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh today asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to list measures taken by the government to ensure smooth procurement of paddy.
Addressing a public rally organised by former MLA Ranjit Singh Chhajjalwaddi here, Amarinder said: “With the Food Corporation of India (FCI) having decided not to purchase paddy in Punjab, the situation appears to be very grim since the government does not seem to be in a position to make payments to the farmers.”
He alleged the government owed over Rs1,500 crore to the arhtiyas for the last season. “With its coffers empty, there appears to be no hope for the farmers in the ensuing paddy season,” he said.
Captain also targeted Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal, alleging he was more interested in expanding his businesses than delivering good governance.
‘Sabotaging drug probe’
Amarinder alleged the Akalis tried to sabotage investigations into the drug racket by trying to get officers such as Niranjan Singh transferred.
