Amritsar: Congress Deputy Leader in the Lok Sabha and local MP Capt Amarinder on Thursday said that he welcomed developing more airports in the state, but this must not be done at the cost of existing ones. Capt Amarinder was here to preside over a meeting of the Airport Advisory Committee at Amritsar airport.

Later talking to reporters, he said that no doubt the facilities at Amritsar airport had improved during the last ten years, but what matters the most is the operating of more flights particularly to foreign countries. “I am very much in favour of building and developing airports at other places like Mohali and Chandigarh, but that must not be at the cost of the existing airports like the one at Amritsar,” he said. He said that when he was the Chief Minister, he had facilitated the operation of international flights from Amritsar Airport.

However, he regretted that later these flights were taken off. Amritsar MP said that he would soon be meeting the Union Civil Aviation Minister and will bring to his notice the problems at Amritsar airport and seek remedial measures.
