SAS NAGAR: Former chief minister and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh on Friday said he or Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief Partap Singh Bajwa are not above the party.

“The party is supreme. Neither me nor Bajwa run the party,” he said, while speaking to the media in the city where he had come to furnish bail bonds of `5 lakh to get his passport released after the court gave him permission to go abroad. “It is the high command which takes call on who shall lead the party in states,” he said.

Amarinder is facing trial for his alleged involvement in the Amritsar Improvement Trust (AIT). A case was registered by the Punjab Vigilance Bureau in this connection. “There are differences between Bajwa and me but this will not affect the 2017 elections. The high command is in the know of this and will take appropriate call. Presently, the the party is focusing on Bihar elections,” he said.

“Congress president Sonia Gandhi takes a call on issues relating to the party leadership and soon the president of the Punjab Congress would be announced,” said Captain.

“Aam Adami Party (AAP) has no future in Punjab. The Congress is a better option with experience of running government,” said Amarinder. Taking a dig at AAP leaders without naming anyone, he said the government cannot be run by cracking jokes and singing songs.
