CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Saturday lodged a scathing attack against the Prime Minister saying it is hypocritical of Narendra Modi to feign ignorance about the excessive security preparation undertaken by the Chandigarh administration, which incidentally came under the Union ministry of home affairs.
Bajwa said it is common knowledge that the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) is always kept in the loop with regard to the security preparation of the Prime Minister given the fact that he is an SPG protectee.
Bajwa said the SPG in such cases carried out a detailed security drill prior to the Prime Minister’s visit to ensure its efficacy. Hence for the Prime Minister to express regret despite the fact that he in the ordinary course would be aware of it and his office would be fully cognizant of the security arrangements is shocking and showed his disdain for the common man, he added.
Bajwa said it is unfortunate that Kargil veteran Brig Devinder Singh was forced to shift the cremation of his son to SAS Nagar as the cremation ground was converted into a parking lot for those attending Modi’s rally.
He said senior advocate GK Chatrath’s cremation was deferred as the crematoria were shut down in view of Modi’s rally.
Also, the 70-year-old father of a senior television journalist was picked up by the police on the apprehension of him protesting at the Modi rally, and he was kept at the local police station for long, he said. JAGMEET CRITICISES MODI FOR NOT NAMING AIRPORT AFTER MARTYR BHAGAT SINGH CHANDIGARH: Senior Congress leader Jagmeet Singh Brar on Saturday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the latter had insulted the nation by not naming the Mohali international airport after martyrs Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev.
Brar said it is a bigger insult to the people of Haryana as the Arya Samaj movement of which Sardar Ajit Singh, uncle of Bhagat Singh, was the leading light, got an overwhelming support from the present Haryana, where the Arya Samaj flourished.
Brar said if the cellular jail in the Andamans could be named after Vir Savarkar, why an airport in Punjab could not be named after the heroes of the freedom struggle.
