City Congress leader to attend US-NATO dialogue in Belgium

JALANDHAR:Young Congress leader from Jalandhar and youngest national media panelist of All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill will be part of Indian delegation in five-day special US – North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) dialogue in Belgium scheduled from September 14.
Shergill, who has joined the league of policy makers and politicians from India visiting Belgium for the programme, belongs to Jalandhar.
“The five-day long engagement is to examine how NATO’s post-2014 security partnership intersects with India’s security interests in Afghanistan, focusing on the complexities of the transition process and on the importance of international cooperation, especially India’s efforts in making the transition a success,” he said in a statement.
Jose K Mani, Member of Parliament, Kerala Congress Party, Tarun Vijay, Member of Parliament, BJP, Asaduddin Owaisi, Member of Parliament, AIMIM Party, Rabi Bernard, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), AIDMK Party, Manish Tewari, Congress Party, Aryaman Bhatnagar, ORF, Nitin Pai, Director, Takshashila Institution, Pushan Das, Research Assistant, ORF and Geetha Rajagopal, US Embassy Chaperon are the other members of the government delegation.
The dialogue assumes special significance in context with India. In a bid to send a strong signal to the Modi government with respect to representation and protection of minorities, the US government has invited as many as six to seven minority leaders from various political parties.
Commenting on the programme, Shergill said, “The composition of the leaders invited by the US government has sent a clear message to the Modi government that US is watchful and keen on giving a voice minorities and protecting them in India.”
