New Delhi: Stressing on the importance of unity, senior Congress leader from Punjab Rajinder Kaur Bhattal on Monday urged the high command to announce the revamp of its state unit soon as the party stood a good chance of winning the 2017 Assembly elections. During her meeting with the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Bhattal pressed upon her to address the issue of factionalism and present a united face of the party ahead of the polls.

An announcement on the revamped Punjab unit of Congress is expected soon. She also told Sonia that the new body should take everyone along and all sections should be represented in it. “I discussed the political situation prevailing in Punjab and apprised Congress president of unease between Akali Dal and BJP, besides dwindling graph of Aam Aadmi Party.

Congress stands a good chance now as people want us. But we have to put up a united face and reach out to people. A revamped body also needs to be put in place soon and all leaders should stand unitedly ahead of next Assembly polls,” she said.

Bhattal, who had met Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday over the party’s restructuring, said the high command is seriously considering the Punjab Congress revamp and are apprised of all issues before the party. The former Punjab chief minister also discussed with Sonia challenges before the party’s Punjab unit and the need to bring all factions and leaders together so as to put an end to dissenting voices.

She said all leaders should move forward together and connect with the people of the state who are looking forward to one voice within the party.
