MAUJGARH (FAZILKA): A day after former Punjab chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh said at a rally at Guru Har Sahai that governance is too serious a duty to be left out to “clowns or comedians”, he fired a fresh salvo at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) saying it has nothing to offer to the people of Punjab “except jokes and quotes”.

The target was once again AAP’s Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, who is holding parallel rallies in the state that are pulling crowds. Not only is the deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha hitting out at the AAP more than at the ruling Akali-BJP alliance in the state, he has also sharpened his attack on the rookie party that took four seats in Punjab during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections and sliced away a major chunk of the anti-incumbency votes.

Amarinder appealed to the youth, the AAP’s main vote bank, to beware of the “false dreams” shown by AAP leaders. “The youth should keep in mind that Punjab needs to be revived, so they should vote for a party with better credibility and governance skills. People are fed up of nine years of misrule of the Akalis and are dying to throw them out of power. AAP has nothing to offer to people except jokes and quotes. The state needs good governance which can only be delivered by experienced politicians, not comedians or novices,” he said.

Taking a leaf out of AAP’s book which had used social media to garner the youth and NRI support, he said social media would play a crucial role in the poll verdict. His remark calling AAP leaders clowns and comedians was also posted on his Twitter handle on Thursday. Amarinder will soon leave for the UK, US and Canada to woo the Punjabi diaspora. Mann has been frequenting these countries to garner the NRI support.

At the rally at Guru Har Sahai, the Captain had asked people about the AAP agenda. “Who is their leader? The party does not have a single leader worth the name who can claim to have experience. If you want to see what they are up to, go to Delhi and see that they have made people’s life miserable and people are regretting having voted them to power,” he had said.
