Chandigarh : Punjab Congress president Partap Bajwa today issued show-cause notice to Tarn Taran District Congress Committee (DCC)president Sukhpal Singh Bhullar for allegedly promising licenced poppy husk vends and allowing liquor distillation for personal consumption during a public rally recently.

Bajwa said the Congress had always been committed to the eradication of drug scourge. The party had been fighting relentlessly against this menace. He made it clear that the stance taken by Bhullar was against the party ideology.

Bajwa said Bhullar had been issued a notice to reply within seven days as to why action should not be taken against him for asking people to endorse his promise of opening poppy husk and opium vends and allow distillation of liquor for personal consumption at a rally at Amarkot.

"It is our commitment to people that the Congress, if voted to power in 2017, will enact laws against offences related to drugs and set up special courts," he said. Bajwa made it clear that what Bhullar said at Amarkot could be his individual views, from which the party completely dissociated itself.
