Chandigarh : Just few days after the telephonic conversation between Aam Aadmi Party’s two MPs got leaked in which the party’s leader in Lok Sabha Bhagwant Mann was learnt slamming the AAP’s senior leader and Supreme Court lawyer HS Phoolka for nurturing a group within the party, the latter on Saturday relinquished all of his party positions.
Making a public announcement of his decision by addressing media persons in Chandigarh and also through an open letter, posted on social media at about 1 pm, though Phoolka claimed that he took the call only after detailed discussions with party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal and with his approval, the development came as a shocker for the AAP and it created flutter among the cadre.
He was having three posts in the AAP—the national legal head, national spokesman and Execuitive Committee member of Punjab unit.
Detaching himself completely with the active politics, Phoolka further claimed that it was for entirely devoting himself to get justice for the 1984 genocide victims and punishment for the culprits such as Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler.
In a tweet @hsphoolka, he stated: “Party has happily relieved me for my old cause of Justice to victims of 1984”. But at the same time, he clarified that he was not quitting the primary membership of the AAP.
After joining the AAP, Phoolka had contested Lok Sabha polls 2014 from Ludhiana parliament constituency. Of the total 10.86 lakh polled votes, Phoolka had got 2.80 lakh votes and stood first runner up with Congress leader Ravneet Bittu winning from him with a margin of 19,709 votes.
While releasing the open letter, Phoolka however sounded optimistic in mentioning that AAP would win the 2017 assembly elections.
Before giving rest to his throat, the AAP’s one of the most vocal leaders HS Phoolka also alleged that people were fed up of the Akalis and the Congress alike as the their eras virtually destroyed Punjab.
Further he stated, “After joining the party during the Lok Sabha Elections when AAP reached Punjab, I was assigned immense responsibilities and given party posts as well, for which I am honoured. However, as much as an inherent part as I am of AAP, my dedication to the cause of 1984 remains unaltered. At this stage, where I feel I am needed more for these cases, I must not hesitate to take a step back from everything else and give the cause my undivided attention.”
