CHANDIGARH: Congress MLA from Mohali Balbir Singh Sidhu on Thursday raised concern over fly-by-night companies that float housing schemes, collect money and then disappear, leaving hundreds of buyers in the lurch.
“A large number of people, who have paid `10 lakh to `50 lakh to get a possession of their ‘dream house’, are now running from pillar to post as directors and other senior officials of such companies have just run away to foreign countries. It’s a big scam and must be thoroughly probed,” Sidhu said during zero hour.
Chief minister Parkash Singh Badal stood up and asked the MLA to give him the names of such companies and assured the House that action would be taken against the guilty.
Mukerian MLA Rajnish Kumar said illegal mining was going on unabated in his constituency despite several complaints being sent to government officials. “Those involved in this illegal business have dug up several places resulting in obstruction to the free flow of heavy traffic in the area”, said the MLA.
Congress legislature party leader Sunil Jakhar raised the issue of rising prices of essential commodities such as onions and pulses. “The dal which should cost`20 per kg to people is now being sold at `110 per kg. Similarly, onions are being sold at`70 per kg,” said Jakhar.
WHEN CONGMEN KEPT WAITING FOR BADAL
Before the session started on Thursday, Congress legislators led by Jakhar were seen waiting for Badal so that they could hand over a basket of pulses and onions wrapped in a gift hamper to him as a mark of protest against rising prices of commodities. However, Badal, known for his punctuality, did not arrive. As a result, the entire batch of Congress MLAs missed the initial few minutes of the question hour session. Badal finally arrived at 10.33 am in the assembly.
Later, Jakhar said Badal came to know about the Congress protest and therefore he kept sitting inside his office waiting for the Congressmen to clear the gate.
