CHHAPAR (LUDHIANA): The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP’s) rally received good response at the annual Chhapar Mela here on Monday. People could be seen walking out of the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) rallies to listen to leaders such as Sangrur MP Bhagwant Mann, Punjab AAP convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur, journalistturned-politician Ashutosh, Delhi MLA Jarnail Singh and state party in-charge Sanjay Singh.

People from adjoining towns and villages thronged the venue, even though there were no chairs to sit. The crowd echoed the AAP leaders’ slogan of “Saada Khwaab Navaa Punjab” (Our dream, a new Punjab).

With an eye on the 2017 assembly elections, the speakers promised a corruption-free, drug-free and prosperous Punjab.

According to Col CM Lakhanpal (retd.), AAP zonal coordinator for Ludhiana, “Buoyed by the AAP dream, Punjabis will sound the death knell of the corrupt SAD-BJP combine and usher in a new era of good governance in the state. Our party will continue to highlight the problems faced by the common man in Punjab.”
