CHANDIGARH: Punjab Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday challenged chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to opt for mid-term polls and seek a fresh mandate in the wake of struggles launched against the government by every section of society, especially the agrarian community.
In a statement here, Bajwa blamed Badal for the damage to the cotton crop and asked him to stop finding scapegoats “in view of a very powerful officer in his own office figuring in the `33-crore pesticide scam” that had ruined the cotton farmers. Bajwa demanded the resignation of state agriculture minister Tota Singh for his negligence.
He said Punjab was notorious for drug menace and sand mafia and the latest addition was pesticide mafia under the patronage of the CM’s office.
