CHANDIGARH: Asking chief minister Parkash Singh Badal to quit after owning moral responsibility for the agriculture crisis, People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal on Wednesday said nongovernance had so far claimed 17 farmers’ lives.
In a press statement here, the PPP chief said thousands of litres of spurious pesticide was being destroyed by dealers in the state every day after the raids began. “It is clear that the issue is not just the purchase of `33-crore pesticides by the agriculture department bypassing the procedure but the big scam that has surfaced,” he added, demanding a CBI probe into the sale of spurious pesticides and seeds. Manpreet said the probe should also focus on the source of such pesticides.
