Capt visits firing victims’ kin, takes on Akali Dal

Faridkot : Veteran Congress leader Capt Amarinder Singh today visited the families of deceased protesters, Gurjeet Singh and Bhagwan Krishan Singh at Sarawan and Niamiwala villages to express solidarity with their families. He also met Sikh activists protesting at Bajakhana, Bargari and Behbal Kalan villages in the district.

He said a sense of anarchy was creeping into the state and the President’s rule seemed to be the only option.

He alleged the police were unleashing terror on innocent people without any provocation, farmers were taking to the streets to protest crop failures, and the state industry was migrating to other states. All this was the result of a complete failure of the SAD-BJP government, he alleged.

Ex-Dy Speaker guns for Badal
Former Deputy Speaker Bir Devinder Singh alleged with Akal Takht withdrawing its decision to pardon dera chief, it had become clear that the decision was taken under political pressure from the Badals. The Akalis had motivated unscrupulous elements for desecrating Guru Granth Sahib, he alleged.

‘Cancel cases against farmers’
Chandigarh:In a statement issued here, Congress MLAs Parminder Singh Pinki, Ajit Mofar, Rakesh Pandey, Surinder Daavar, Gurkirat Singh Kotli, Navtej Cheema and Bharat Bhushan Ashu said the cases registered against protesting farmers should be withdrawn. “The government is acting in an autocratic manner by harassing innocent farmers,” they said.

Cong protest on Oct 19
Jalandhar: The Congress has called for the social boycott of the Badals for the “mischievous role played by them in the recent disturbing events”. Party spokesperson Sukhpal Khaira said to protest the killing of two Sikh youths, they would hold a dharna at Nadala in Kapurthala on October 19.

‘CM must apologise’
Fatehgarh Sahib: The Panchayat Union has asked Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to seek apology from Akal Takht for the firing incident that killed two Sikh protesters at Kotkapura. Union president Hardev Singh Sialu said the Akali Dal had violated Sikh “maryada” for their own political benefits. He said Badal should take moral responsibility for the recent violent incidents and seek apology from Akal Takht.

Washington : The Indian-American community in the US has urged the Trump administration to “fully support” India’s decision to revoke the constitutional provision that accorded special status to Jammu and Kashmir and to continue to exert pressure on Pakistan to end its support to cross-border terrorism.
