CHANDIGARH: In the wake of sacrilege incidents of the Guru Granth Sahib and subsequent protests in various parts of the state, Congress MP from Ludhiana Ravneet Bittu on Sunday reminded chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal “not let Punjab go back to dark days again”.

In a press release issued from the Bathinda central jail, Bittu accused the Badals of shedding crocodile tears when the situation has gone from bad to worse in Punjab.

He asked as why no action was taken against the policemen responsible for firing that led to the deaths of two innocent youths at Berhbal Kalan village of Faridkot district.

“Why the persons named in the FIR have not been arrested yet? Eight policemen have been named in the FIR. How did the intelligence agencies fail to assess the prior warnings and information given by certain groups about this incident? How did the police fire at people protesting peacefully without orders from the executive magistrate? The chief minister and his deputy are avoiding going to the villages where the incident took place,” he said.

He made an appeal to the people of Punjab not to take law in their hands.
