SANGRUR: Following recent incidents of sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib Punjab, members of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on Thursday burnt the effigy of chief minister Parkash Singh Badal, deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Avtar Singh Makkar, among others.

SAD (A) state general secretary Gurnail Singh said that the Badal government had no right to remain in power.

The protesters also burn the effigies of union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal, cabinet ministers Daljit Singh Cheema and Bikramjit Singh Majithia and the five priests of Akal Takht. “People who have confessed to have torn the pages of Guru Granth Sahib are doing so under political pressure.
